Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS

The Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS (GBC) is an international partner of ABC on AIDS and the two organizations work together to ensure that advocacy on an international level is followed-up with concrete workplace actions in Asia.

The chairman of GBC is Juergen E. Schrempp, the Chairman of the Board of Management of DaimlerChrysler. The President and CEO of GBC is Richard Holbrooke, former US Ambassador to the United Nations.

The mission of GBC is to increase the range and quality of business sector AIDS programs – both in the workplace and broader community. The GBC identifies new opportunities for businesses, supports the development of AIDS strategies by individual companies and encourages governments, the international community and the non-governmental sector to partner with the business sector.

Call for action from GBC-ABC on AIDS

According to the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS (GBC), companies in Asia can support national AIDS campaigns through high level advocacy to change public attitudes, providing workplace HIV education, testing and treatment and supporting local communities. With 7.2 million people currently living with HIV, Asia is home to more infections that any other region besides sub-Saharan Africa, and action now is essential to prevent its further spread.
